Summer Adventure Program
Thursday, June 15, 22 & 29, 2017 / Session 1: 9:00 – 11:00 am, Session 2: 11:30 am - 1:30 pm

The best place to learn about the environment is the natural environment. When this place-based education is implemented, students and community members can benefit from partnerships. Children entering grades k-5 will participate in age-appropriate activities that utilize nearby nature to teach about the environment. They will also create a fun craft or project centered on the week’s theme.  Finally, children will participate in an active game, play, and enjoy the outdoors.

Yoga Flow is restorative, challenging, invigorating, and fun!  It’s Barbara’s goal to introduce yoga in a safe, non-competitive, judgment-free way.  Enjoy the class at The Draw, where you will experience a Vinyasa style of yoga that focuses on breath and movement.  All levels are welcome, as modifications will be offered.

Learn to Kayak Class
Saturday, June 3, 2017 / 8:30 am - 10:00 am or 10:30 am - Noon

 


Kick off summer with a paddle around Sunfish Lake in kayaks. Find out why kayaking is one of Minnesota’s fastest growing outdoor adventures. You will learn how to paddle correctly, get in and out of a kayak easily and safely, and how to pack for a day on the water. You will also get an overview of Ramsey’s canoe/kayak rental system available free to residents.

Pickleball

Introduction to Pickleball
Saturday, June 3, 2017 / 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Pickleball is a racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. The class will be led by Luke Jesso, a USA Pickleball Association Ambassador for the northwest metro. You will learn the strokes, positioning, rules, and scoring. After you get a taste of the sport, stay and watch the Northwest Metro Pickleball Team practice.

Air Painting

 ART IN THE PARK: Plein Air Painting
Saturday, June 17, 2017 / 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Spend your Saturday morning enjoying the sounds of nature while you learn to paint your natural surroundings. You will create your own unique landscape painting. Rumriver Art Center Instructors will lead participants step-by-step through this project, allowing you to understand the process of each technique and still be able to create your own version.

Join Emily Parent, Registered Dietitian, to learn about the ease of preparing healthy foods.  Emily is a Supermarket Registered Dietitian at Coborn’s in Ramsey. She provides dietary and nutritional information to the community.  Emily also facilitates health and nutrition seminars and cooking demonstrations.

Stand up paddle boarding is easy, fun, and a great workout! Similar to a surf board, but you will have greater stability and control with the wider raft and aid of a paddle. Participants must be at least 15 years of age. Class limited to first 8 registrants.

Theatre 1

Performing in the Park: Devised Theatre - "Magic, Mayhem, and Mischief"
Monday, June 26 - Wednesday, June 28, 2017 / 9:00am - 11:00am

Students in grades K-5 will work collaboratively to create a script through improvisation games and techniques. Students will perform a short skit on the final day of class. This is a great class for children who use their creativity daily, and like to express their ideas through stories.

Camping 101

Camping 101
Friday, July 7 / 4:00 – 8:00 pm

Minnesota has beautiful parks to offer, and many are great locations for camping. Join local Boy Scout troops for an evening of family fun outdoors while you learn the basics of camping. Activities will include setting up tents, fire building, outdoor cooking, and camp activities.

Art Fair

Art in the Park: Art Fair
Sunday, July 9, 2017 / 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Join the City of Ramsey for its first annual art fair, where community members and visitors will be able to share and enjoy the arts.  This free event will also feature local food vendors, artist demos (including glass marble making, pottery, painting, and more), and introductory art classes.  Introductory art classes are free for everyone! These 45-minute classes will occur at 11:00am, 1:00pm, and 3:00pm and will be led by Rumriver Art Center staff.  Vote on your favorite artists for their chance to win a grand prize of $200 for the “People’s Choice Award.” And you have the chance to win your favorite artists work!

Theatre 2

Performing in the Park: Devised Theatre - "The Future is Yours"
Monday, July 10 - Thursday, July 13, 2017 / 9:00am - 12:00pm

Students in grades 6-12 and director will work collaboratively to create a script through improvisation games and techniques. Students will perform a short skit on the final day of class. This is a great class for students who wish to deepen their theatrical experience - or, who wish to give it a try for the very first time.
