Trunk Utilities Design Information
Approximately 2,600 feet of 18-inch polyvinylchloride (PVC) trunk sanitary sewer and 12-inch ductile iron pipe (DIP) trunk watermain will be installed along the south side of Riverdale Drive between the existing utility stubs at the intersection of old Armstrong Boulevard and Riverdale Drive and the intersection of Llama Street and Riverdale Drive. Sanitary manholes will be constructed at 400-foot maximum intervals along the trunk sanitary sewer to accommodate pipe deflections and cleaning of the sewer. Fire hydrants and gate valves will be placed along the trunk watermain to improve maintenance capabilities and public safety.
The lowest responsible bid was received from Kuechle Underground in the amount of $607,144.11. Project costs will be funded through the Sewer and Water enterprise funds.
The City conducted a pre-construction meeting with Kuechle Underground on February 27. During this meeting, Kuechle provided information to the City including contact information, proposed project schedule, methods of construction, traffic control plans, and other miscellaneous construction related items.
On March 4, Kuechle Underground met with City Staff to discuss a short-term road closure on Armstrong Boulevard south of Riverdale Drive to allow the existing trunk utility stubs to be extended to the west side of Armstrong Boulevard. On March 5, two orange construction signs reading “Road Closed Beginning March 15” were installed along Armstrong Boulevard south of Riverdale Drive, providing advance warning of the pending closure to local residents and businesses. On March 15, barricades will be used to close the road, weather permitting, and ground-thawing blankets will be placed on the pavement and the ground west of Armstrong Boulevard along a portion of the proposed trunk utility construction route. The underlying frost should thaw within several days allowing Kuechle to connect to the existing utility stubs and extend them to the west side of Armstrong Boulevard by March 22. At that time the road can be temporarily repaired and opened to traffic again. During the short-term closure of Armstrong Boulevard, Alpaca Street will provide access to Riverdale Drive.
The utilities construction must be complete by April 30 so the new Lazydays RV maintenance facility, currently under construction in the southeast corner of Riverdale Drive and Llama Street, can connect to City sewer and water before opening in May. All other work must be complete by June 30, 2019, including pavement repairs and turf restoration.
The City is committed to working cooperatively with property owners and the general public to minimize concerns and impacts during construction.
